Changes in the Number of mast Cells According to the Fixatives

Abstract
The number of mast cells in the connective tissue considered to be variable with the species difference of various animals, the age and pathophysiologic conditions in the same species and the differences of staining solutions and fixatives. In
this
study, the fixatives were focused for the study of changes in the number or mast cells.
For this, Sprgue-Dawley rats were sacrificed under ether anesthesia, the skin of epigastric region was removed and fixed in the Bowin's solution, Carnoy's solution, and neutral formalin solution, respectively. Airpouch method was performed as the
control groups. All the sections were stained with toluidine blue and observed under light microscope.
@ES The results were followings:
@EN 1) The number of mast cells were different significantly individually in the same group.
2) The number of mast cells were decreased significantly in the expermental groups.
3) The number of mast cells were least in the Bowin's solution fixed group.
4) The distribution of mast cells in subcutaneous connective tissue was not related with blood vessles, nerve fibers and the excretory ducts of skin glands.
5) The mast cells were considered to be proliferated within the subcutaneous connecive tissue.
